Chapter 16

The room was wrapped in suffocating silence. Kunal sat in his study chair, but his mind wandered elsewhere.

The silence was broken by a hesitant knock.

Kunal snapped out of his thoughts and cleared his throat.

"Come in."

The door creaked open, and his assistant stepped inside. His footsteps faltered slightly as he stopped in front of Kunal's desk, his head lowered.

"What brings you here?" Kunal asked roughly.

The assistant remained silent. His head stayed lowered, his throat working as he searched for the right words, but Kunal's patience was already wearing thin.

"Are you going to say something or just stand there like a fool?"

He snapped in frustration, making the assistant flinch.

The tension in the room thickened as the assistant placed a tablet on the desk and slowly pushed it toward Kunal with trembling hands.

A rigid breath escaped Kunal.

He snatched the tablet.

"What is it that's taking you this long?" Irritation was written all over his face.

Leaning back in his chair, he began scrolling through the screen.

The assistant stood frozen as Kunal's eyes moved across the tablet.

Suddenly, Kunal's grip tightened around it.

Before the assistant could say anything, the tablet flew across the room and smashed against the wall.

The loud crash shattered the silence.

Pieces of the destroyed tablet scattered across the floor.

The assistant stumbled back, gulping nervously as he watched Kunal's heavy breathing and the fury burning in his eyes.

Kunal slammed both hands onto the desk, making everything rattle.

Even the assistant jumped.

"Who the hell did this?" Kunal demanded.

The assistant swallowed hard.

"Bo... Boss..."

"I asked who the hell did this?"

Kunal roared again, sweeping every file off the desk.

His eyes burned with rage.

The news that someone had bought a major portion of his company shares and that his ₹50 crore film set had been reduced to ashes echoed through his mind.

"We're trying..." the assistant stammered. "We're trying to find out who did it, Boss."

"Trying?"

Kunal's voice sliced through the silent room.

The assistant lowered his head again.

"Did your so-called trying bring back what I lost?"

"N-No, sir."

"Then find out."

His voice turned deadly calm.

"I want every single detail about the person who burned my film set and bought the company shares."

He pointed toward the door.

"Check every CCTV camera around the film set. There must be footage somewhere."

His jaw tightened.

"And question every reporter. If anyone has a recording or even the smallest clue, I want it."

The assistant straightened immediately.

"Yes, sir."

"And what about the shares?" Kunal asked as he sank heavily into his chair.

"Did you find out who bought them all within a few seconds?"

"No, sir."

The assistant pulled out his phone to continue working since the tablet had been destroyed.

"It must be one of our new business rivals."

"No."

Kunal replied without hesitation.

"A new business rival couldn't pull this off."

The assistant frowned.

"How can you be so sure?"

Before Kunal could answer, his phone buzzed.

Unknown Number.

His jaw tightened.

Without answering, he switched the phone off.

The assistant noticed but didn't dare ask any questions.

Not when his boss looked this furious.

"Leave."

Kunal ordered without looking up.

"And inform me the moment you find anything."

The assistant nodded and quietly left the destroyed study.

The door clicked shut behind him.

Kunal remained standing alone in the room.

Moonlight streamed through the windows.

The walls were decorated only with photographs of him and his family.

Not a single picture of his wife...

Naina.

After a long moment, Kunal left the messy study and walked upstairs.

As he passed the guest room, he stopped.

Only then did he realize...

He hadn't seen Naina since the incident at the family gathering.

His hand reached for the doorknob.

But he didn't turn it.

He simply stood there for several moments, listening for any movement inside.

Nothing.

With a heavy sigh, he finally turned the handle.

The door slowly swung open.

The room was empty.

The bed was untouched.

The curtains were drawn.

The windows remained closed.

There wasn't a single sign of Naina.

"Where is she?"

IN THE HOSPITAL

Naina lay peacefully on the hospital bed, still unconscious after the accident.

The room was quiet except for the steady beeping of the heart monitor and the soft hum of the air conditioner.

The curtains swayed gently around the open window.

Outside the room...

Rivaan—also known as Parth—sat on a hospital bench with his assistant.

Did you destroyed every cctv footages of the film set burning?" Rivaan asked.

Yes boss, there is no cctv footage and any clue about who set the fire." His assistant replied. Rivaan nodded.

"The Khuranas' company is almost yours now, sir." His assistant said.

"Should Bedi Industries be our next target?"

Rivaan nodded while scrolling through his phone.

His assistant studied his face for a moment.

"Boss."

"Yes?"

Rivaan replied without looking up.

"You want to destroy Bedi Industries too?"

His assistant sounded confused.

Rivaan slipped his phone into his pocket.

"I want to destroy both of them."

"You just focus on your work."

"I'll handle everything else."

With that, he entered Naina's room, gently closing the door behind him.

His assistant watched him pull a chair beside Naina's bed and sit down, gently taking her hand in his.

He let out a dramatic sigh.

"Kya baat hai... Jiski papa ki company ko destroy karna hai, usi se pyaar bhi kar rahe ho. Wah, Boss."

Shaking his head in amusement, he walked away.

Inside the room...

Rivaan rested his cheek against their joined hands.

"It's been a long time since I held your hand like this."

He murmured softly while looking at Naina's pale face with adoring eyes.

"I won't let you go this time."

His grip tightened around her hand.

"This time..."

"You'll be mine."

"Only mine."
